Craig Byrnes - “Blue Day”

Posted in Uncategorized by aditya on September 28th, 2006

Craig started playing guitar at age thirteen and after three lessons turned to the teaching of the grunge guru, Nirvana. “I remember standing in my room at my parents house singing into a Radio Shack microphone running through a practice amp, and playing my white Peavy Predator AX to what must have been every Nirvana song,” says Byrnes.

It comes as no surprise that Byrnes has the same effect on a room that Cobain had. With an astounding amount of energy beaming from every performance, Byrnes and co. has shown music fans everywhere REAL music overflowing with passion.

Fans Of Jimmy Century - “Blonde Ambition, Red Temptation”

Posted in Uncategorized by aditya on September 25th, 2006

San Francisco’s newborn electronic duo, Fans of Jimmy Century, deliver groovy, tasty tracks, bringing to mind a mixture of Goldfrapp, The Januaries, & Oakenfold’s alluring styles, but w/ a distinctive, undeniable flair all their own. The building security guard downstairs said we were the female electronic equivalent of the Dandy Warhols or The Killers…somewhat. Smooth beats & melodies come to life with a thick fringe of euro smash & noir cinematic soundtrack. Rats, sounded a bit syrupy, didn’t it? How ’bout simply “the grooves are swell. the voice & the grooves rendezvous well.” There. We’ve written our own review and it rhymes. The duo of vocalist/composer Alicia Peron and bassist/guitarist/programmer Victor James bring with them much experience with modern music having played the bay area club scene in several popular San Francisco bands. Feeling a natural pull toward the electronic/dance genre, Fans of Jimmy Century was born. Watch for some very visual live performances in 2007. What else do u say when you’ve only been going a month? Jimmy Century is slang for ? In other health-related news, Victor has quit smoking. Alicia’s oral obsession with fake cigarettes remains. I’ve seen Beyond the Valley of the Dolls 23 times. The 23rd time I fell asleep in my apple jacks.

Band Members:
Alicia Peron - vocals / composition
Victor James - bass / composition
James Burnett - sound design
Nikki Aclaro - guitars

The Kin - “See”

Posted in Uncategorized by aditya on September 13th, 2006

Quietly considered one of New York City’s most promising independent acts (sold out Bowery Ballroom, Top Ten sales CMJ week at both NYC Tower Record Stores), THE KIN’s music is passionate, raw and poetic. The New York Times describes them as “bombastic” and TimeOut NY calls their music “soulful.” Co-lead Isaac Koren remarks, “We play for the soul of it, the love of it and the need to do it.” Thorry Koren adds, “Our music comes from making those eloquent mistakes”.

The Kin’s sound is a dynamic exchange and musical bond between Australian brothers, Isaac and Thorry Koren, who co-write and co-front the band. These Aussie lads have self produced and self-released one full LP (Tracing, 2004), two five song EPs (Red & Black 2005), and a ‘Live at The Bowery Ballroom’ DVD (2006).

Isaac Koren: Vocals, Piano
