Born and raised in London, Zoe’s musical journey began on the mountains of Spain-where she sat for five months in an isolated mountain house listening to the song-writers of the 1960’s. Moved by the purity and passion of the music and lyrics , the poetess and film student knew she needed to move to California to fulfill her destiny and make the music she was born to create.

Zoe is a unique artist who has lived and performed all over the world, including Rome, London, New York, Spain, Los Angeles and India. She is a real artist in the true sense of the word, who prefers to look at the world through spiritual eyes. She is an original. And no doubt someday another young songwriter will be sitting on a mountain in a remote part of the world, listening to Zoe’s music and will be inspired to follow her path.

While primarily a solo artist, Chris Downing, creator and sometimes only member of the band RhVibe, has made a name for himself in the local community as a live performer and consistently drew 100 head crowds to bars in his home town of Plymouth, NH for open mic nights he hosted in late 2005 and early 2006. After recording his Debut album “Waiting Around” in August of 2005, Chris turned to the internet as his primary resource for new listeners. My Space and Pure Volume became his two best friends, opening up whole new opportunities…and they worked. Getting over 1200 fans on My Space and 17,000 plays on Pure Volume within the first eight months of the CD release in October 2005, all without even touring or radio airplay gave Chris the idea he might be able to make this work.

San Francisco’s newborn electronic duo, Fans of Jimmy Century, deliver groovy, tasty tracks, bringing to mind a mixture of Goldfrapp, The Januaries, & Oakenfold’s alluring styles, but w/ a distinctive, undeniable flair all their own. The building security guard downstairs said we were the female electronic equivalent of the Dandy Warhols or The Killers…somewhat. Smooth beats & melodies come to life with a thick fringe of euro smash & noir cinematic soundtrack. Rats, sounded a bit syrupy, didn’t it? How ’bout simply “the grooves are swell. the voice & the grooves rendezvous well.” There. We’ve written our own review and it rhymes. The duo of vocalist/composer Alicia Peron and bassist/guitarist/programmer Victor James bring with them much experience with modern music having played the bay area club scene in several popular San Francisco bands. Feeling a natural pull toward the electronic/dance genre, Fans of Jimmy Century was born. Watch for some very visual live performances in 2007. What else do u say when you’ve only been going a month? Jimmy Century is slang for ? In other health-related news, Victor has quit smoking. Alicia’s oral obsession with fake cigarettes remains. I’ve seen Beyond the Valley of the Dolls 23 times. The 23rd time I fell asleep in my apple jacks.

The Kin’s sound is a dynamic exchange and musical bond between Australian brothers, Isaac and Thorry Koren, who co-write and co-front the band. These Aussie lads have self produced and self-released one full LP (Tracing, 2004), two five song EPs (Red & Black 2005), and a ‘Live at The Bowery Ballroom’ DVD (2006).

The Green and Yellow TV make music that exists somewhere between pop’s past and it’s future, between the first giddy wave of Sixties psychedelic exuberance and a sound entirely new, a mix of crisp vocal harmonies and delicately constructed melodies which manage to take the familiar and make it fresh- all over again. Turn on The Green and Yellow TV and you’ll hear hints of Kinks’ bounciness, sleek Beach Boys’ beauty and some classic rock swagger, but soaring above it all is a bright and beautiful sound of their very own.

With their newest album, Sinister Barrier, The Green and Yellow TV have honed their skills to a sharp and gleaming edge, producing an array of distinctive songs that take the pop tradition and run. This is a band that knows exactly how to bring an unexpected depth to a catchy beat without losing all the sweetness of accessibility, and Sinister Barrier delivers the pop sugar with enough guitar grit and lyrical smarts to keep away the cavities.

The warmth of Shawn Colvin’s folk, the pointed edge and vocal resonance of Lucinda Williams. Ina May Wool has garnered her share of affirmation and acclaim since the release of her debut CD, “Moon Over 97th Street” in 1999. The Edinburgh Folk Festival invited her to play, and she toured the UK as well as in Europe. Representatives from BMI and ASCAP chose one of her songs for a CD of the 15 best unsigned acoustic artists worldwide, and she’s been a finalist in the New Jersey Folk Festival songwriter contest and the Plowshares Songwriting Competition. The Just Plain Folks Music Awards named “Elephant Learning to Dance” the best song by a female singer/songwriter and placed “Moon Over 97th Street” in the top five albums worldwide. Suzanne Vega included one of her tunes on the Vigil CD, a collection by New York songwriters after 9/11 also featuring Vega, Christine Lavin, Richard Julian, and Jack Hardy.

Jessie Murphy was born and raised in New York City and her original songs and style have made her a favorite performer in her hometown and in New York’s legendary Antifolk scene. “There’s a cargo hold of humanity in the beautiful Jessie Murphy’s songs,” read last Summer’s Antifolk Fest program, “She packs houses, she wows crowds, she’s one to watch.” Jessie is also a frequent Village Voice choice. The paper once described singer-songwriter Jessie Murphy as sounding like both a “photonegative of Jimi Hendrix” and “Joni Mitchell’s scrappy kid sister with a voice like rippling silk.”

Murphy grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Al Green, Simon and Garfunkel and Sarah Vaughn. In recent years she’s also been influenced by artists like Belle and Sebastian, Fiest, The Kings of Convenience and Regina Spektor. Foremost a guitarist, she spent a year developing her guitar work and performance style at the Berkley School of Music in Boston. Murphy graduated from Columbia University with a combined degree in English and Creative Writing. Upon graduation, she embarked on a professional career in music, teaching private guitar lessons while continuing to study music independently.

The Last Show is a New York City punk power trio with a sound that lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Justin Lizama describes as “bipolar rock.” You can hear what he means on “DC (Choose a Side),” a track from the band’s recently issued EP Honestly is a Word Used by Liars. As the song begins, Lizama’s dark melody and foreboding lyrics are propelled by a sonic assault of driving bass, relentless drums and howling guitar feedback. But in an abrupt mood shift, the band breaks into a triumphant punk chorus with the lyric “People, people, Take a walk outside / Save your soul, save your mind.”

Singer/songwriter/keyboardist Jody Shelton’s southern roots and classical background are evident in his penchant for heartbreaking and epic soundscapes, and it is these influences that serve as the foundation for his classic pop melodies. And while there may be classical, jazz, and country elements in the music, Jody’s is definitely a modern rock band. Eric Wilhelm (guitar/production), Ricardo Rodriguez (bass), and Christopher Heinz (drums) bring grit and drama to the epics, poetry to the ballads and soul to the grooves. Nowhere is this dynamic more prevalent in their live shows, which remain infused with their unique energy and charisma. The individual personalities of each band member are fully present onstage, as Jody serves as the centerpiece and anchor, bringing familiarity, warmth and showmanship to a truly engaging live show.

Go spend some quality time with Dust, the second independently released CD by The MercurySeed, and the essence of indie rock is unveiled. “Waiting,” case in point, which starts off with authentic scratchy AM radio snow, is the kind of fast-folk pop tune that Tom Petty would be proud of, with Robert Smith guitar accents straight outta the Cure layered over a jangle of acoustic stronk associated with Whiskeytown, but chopped-up Keith Richards style. “Come Undone,” a little two-chord rocker, works up a Beach Boys vocal harmony on the chorus, a bridge that pays homage to the Who, and an elastic James Burton West Coast guitar solo that’s redolent of Ricky Nelson’s Imperial years. Got the picture”

Just when you think you have seen and heard it all, something like Violet Says 5 pops out from nowhere shakes every nerve in your body! New styles and twists are what keep music alive, and Violet Says 5 has a new twist, style, and approach for delivering a performance-driven sound that will turn you upside down.

The Question: What happens when you throw away the turntables, recorded music, and repetitive bass-driven thumps and put a crazy long-haired rapper in front of three groovin’ cats playing original “Hip Hop Funk” ?
